Wadi Rum Desert in Jordan hosts a vast number of camps.
All of which are structured with different types of accommodation: tents, domes or capsules, and a common main tent where breakfast and dinner are served and also used as recreation area.
These Desert Camps are considered full-fledged luxury stays.
Majority of the camps are just a few hundred meters distant from the main road that goes into Wadi Rum.
Forget to find any kind of resort or luxury hotel in the desert.
The desert, wherever it is, must be experienced as such, part of an adventure aimed at knowing its wildest spirit; and so camping under the stars.
Keep in mind that you will take advantage of your stay at the camp only for the night as the day is usually entirely dedicated to excursions and exploring of the desert by 4x4s, camels, horses, hiking or by quads.
We stayed at the Mazayen Rum Camp.
On arrival it looks like landing on a huge imaginary Martian Camp.
These are the domes that welcome you at the entrance.

Mazayen Rum Camp | Wadi Rum Desert
Amman to Wadi Rum Desert: 4 hours and 30 minutes
The dome, technically geodesic dome is a hemispherical thin-shell structure (lattice-shell) based on a geodesic polyhedron. The triangular elements of the dome are structurally rigid and distribute the structural stress throughout the structure.
Each dome rests on a wooden platforms keeping the right thermal insulation between the ground and the structure. The protective shell is obviously waterproof.
As you can see from the photos the dome is divided in two rooms, the bigger one is the bedroom, the smaller one is the bathroom.
Each dome is 50 m², with independent access, and is equipped with an electric generator (not visible), AC, big wardrobe, toilet and shower, hair dryer, and big window with view on the desert.
This is the first view from the ground walking into the Camp
At night the camp becomes even more suggestive, with the domes lightened up; in the middle of the darkness the lamps on the side of the wooden platform route will take you anywhere in the camp.
The common diner tent is definitely a beautiful place where to relax and meet other adventurer of the desert. It is divided in two main areas the diner and the relax area. In the first one you can find tables and comfy seats where to have breakfast and dinner with a buffet.
The second one is designated for smoking shisha, play cards or any table game or just chill.
On the other side of the camp, crossing the main common tent, you can find the other camping area made by square-based tents.
These tents are 32 m², as the domes, they have an independent access and have more or less the same services: an electric generator (not visible), AC, toilet and shower, and hair dryer.
All the accommodations come with clean sheets and towels and wifi is all around the area.
Depending on your needs you can find bedrooms for families, for couples or for single, all with very nice comfortable beds .
