MAURITANIA EXPEDITION

An expedition dedicated to adventure and exploration crossing the Adrar region in the heart of the Sahara Desert of Mauritania, discovering archaeological sites of historical and cultural interest, the ancient libraries threatened by the sand, enchanting oases, dunes of different colors and ending on the coast to sail with local fishermen

ITINERARY

DAY 1 - ARRIVALS
Meeting and greetings + briefing

DAY 2 - 4X4 TO ERG AMAṬLÎCH
Explore the different landscapes and sand dunes of the Sahara Desert, crossing remote villages and camp under the high dunes of Azouega.

DAY 3 - VALLÉE BLANCHE AND TERJIT OASIS
Keep driving trough Erg Amaṭlîch to end up at the Tifoujar Pass overseeing the Vallée Blanche, then afternoon relax at pools of the Terjit Oasis.

DAY 4 - 4x4 TOWARDS EL BEYEDH
Experience the remotest areas of the Adrar Region driving through breathtaking landscapes on a full day expedition towards the open air museum of El Beyedh

DAY 5 - CROSSING GUELB ER RICHÂT TO OUADANE
Driving across the Eye of the Desert, known as the Richât Structure to end up to Ouadane, World Heritage Site, once a staging post in the trans-Saharan trade routes.

DAY 6 - VISIT OUADANE AND CHINGUETTI
Visit Ouadane and drive to Chinguetti, a ksar and a medieval trading center in northern Mauritania, known for its ancient libraries threatened by the desert.

DAY 7/8/9 - CAMELS HIKE TO SECRET OASIS
Camels hike to explore a remote oasis nestled between the dunes of the Sahara Desert, and camp under the stars. Experience local ceremony and dances with locals back in Chinguetti.

DAY 10 - IRON ORE TRAIN FROM CHOUM TO NOUADHIBOU
Visit Azoghui and heading towards Choum to embark on a 12 hours adventure hopping on the longest iron ore train of the Sahara towards Nouadhibou, on the Atlantic coast.

DAY 11 - CAP BLANC
Visit Cap Blanc and Nouadhibou key locations

DAY 12 - BANC D'ARGUIN
Drive along the coast to reach the Bay of Arguin, a World Heritage Site important for migratory birds and breeding birds, including flamingos, pelicans and terns.

DAY 13 - SAILING WITH LOCAL FISHERMEN
Experience a full day on traditional pirogues sailing with the local fishermen, and cook lunch on the beach.

DAY 14 - FISH MARKET AND RELAX
Visit the local fish market on the beach where hundreds of colorful pirogues are parked on the seashore, and as many sailing in the sea to catch fish.

DAY 15 - DEPARTURES
Time to say goodbye and leave
