MAURITANIA EXPEDITION

An expedition dedicated to adventure and exploration crossing the Adrar region in the heart of the Sahara Desert of Mauritania, discovering archaeological sites of historical and cultural interest, the ancient libraries threatened by the sand, enchanting oases, dunes of different colors and ending hiking for a week in between canyons and wadis.

ITINERARY

DAY 1 - ARRIVALS
Meeting and greetings, trasnfer to the hotel and briefing

DAY 2 - MINIBUS TO ATAR
Mini bus from the capital Nouakchott to Atar, capital of the Adrar Region.

DAY 3 - ATAR TO EL BEYEDH
Taking our 4x4 vehicles driving through breathtaking landscapes on a full day expedition towards the open air museum of El Beyedh

DAY 4 - 4x4 TO EL GHALAOUYIA
El Ghallaouiya is an abandoned, though well preserved, French fort built at the end of the 19th century at the very end of the Adrar dhar.

DAY 5 - CROSSING GUELB ER RICHÂT TO OUADANE
Driving across the Eye of the Desert, known as the Richât Structure to end up to Ouadane, World Heritage Site, once a staging post in the trans-Saharan trade routes.

DAY 6 - FROM OUADANE TO CHINGUETTI
Drive to Chinguetti and visit of the town, a ksar and a medieval trading center in northern Mauritania, known for its ancient libraries threatened by the desert.

DAY 7 - FROM CHINGUETTI TO BERBERA OASIS
Driving towards the Oasis of Berbera crossing the vast palm groove of Mhaïret where we going to refresh.

DAY 8 - FROM BERBERA OASIS TO TIMINIT
Here our journey starts with our camel caravan, we will be hiking down the Timinit Wadi to reach the oasis and village of Timinit

DAY 9 - FROM TIMINIT TO JOUALI
The second day of hiking leads to the plateau of Kediet Eïmer. We continue to Maaden, a very young oasis unlike most of those in Adrar.  Installation of our bivouac not far from the village of Jouali.

DAY 10 - FROM JOUALI TO CHATOU ES SAGHIR
We reach the wadi El Abiod, in the Vallée Blanche. Direction Chatou es Saghir which we will reach midday. Cave paintings of giraffes, said to be 4000 years old, can be discovered under a sandstone slab.

DAY 11 - FROM CHATOU ES SAGHIR TO TECHEDRENT
We reach Toungad, the densest palm grove in Adrar. We walk along its wadi before going back up on the plateau. We then follow the Chemmat wadi before arriving at its end near the well of Techedrent.

DAY 12 - FROM TECHEDRENT TO NOUAKANE
We continue your hike on the rocky plateau before having lunch in the vicinity of the N’kref pass. Reaching the majestic circus of El Baka.

DAY 13 - FROM NOUAKANE TO N'TENZENT
Hiking towards the village of Tintamdeg. stay with the villagers that narrate more about their daily life. The canyons of N’Tezent and La Dakhla host our bivouac in a landscape of stones and rocks.

DAY 14 -
FROM N'TENZENT TO TERJIT OASIS
Last stretch of the hiking towards Terjit. Picnic lunch and visit. Dip into the water pools. We meet our team of camel drivers for a last night in Bivouac.

DAY 15 - DEPARTURES
Minibus to the capital, rest and visit to the Port de Pêche, on the coast of Nouakchott. Dinner in the capital before leaving for the aiport for departures.
